Voices tab

After selecting a voice in the Dialog language tab, see chapters below to define a current voice.

Testing the voice

  1. If you want, first select the language needed in the Dialog tab

No warning message appears, which means that at least one voice is available.

If a warning message appears, see the Dialog language section to resolve the problem.

  2. Click on the Voices tab

  3. Select Local voices and look for the status of the Select, Define current and Test buttons

    • If buttons are not disabled, it means that there is at least one available voice in the List of available voices list.
    • If buttons are disabled, it means that there is no available voice for this type (the By default choice is not available because you can't click one of these buttons to select it).

  4. Repeat the step 15 for the Remote voices selection

  5. Select an available voice in the list
  6. Enter a phrase in the Test sentence field:

    • I've done the test with you and, as an example, I've installed the Bulgarian package.
    • Now, i have to enter a Bulgarian sentence (well, i'm not Bulgarian), let me 2 minutes to translate a sentence with DeepL
    • Okay, for you and your selected language, I guess it's easier (no need to translate), for me and the Bulgarian language, I have this:

  7. Click the Test button

  8. If all goes well, the phrase is spoken by the A.V.A.T.A.R client in the selected language.

    Warning

In some cases, even with the language pack installed, no voice may be available.

Try to solve the problem by reading the Possible errors and resolutions chapter.

Once you've checked that everything's in order, and if the problem persists, it's not a bug of the application but a problem with the system's language pack.

  9. You can use sliders below to adjust the volume, speed and pitch of the voice (pitch only for Remote voices).

Select the voice

  1. Click on the Define current button to use the selected voice as the voice for dialogs.
  2. You can click on the “Select” button to add a voice to the Selected voices list to be used when you ask A.V.A.T.A.R to change voice. The application will loop over each voice in the list to change voice.

Below is an example of voice configuration for the Bulgarian language (as you can see, a "Change voice" rule has been added to the voice rule to change the voice field):

    Warning

Selecting the By default voice is not recommended.

This option is only available if only one language pack is installed in the system.
Otherwise, this selection may use a voice from a different language pack than the one you would like to use.

Saving the voice as current

To save the language, you must define at least:

  1. A keyword to trigger the listening:

Open the Dialog tab and enter a keyword (for example jarvis)

  2. A sentence when the listening is triggered by the keyword:

Open the Rules tab and in the When listening is triggered by the keywordfield, enter a phrase in your language (e.g. here i am in English)

  3. A sentence during a askme (question/answer) when the client doesn't understand your answer:

Open the Rules tab and in the When the client asks you to repeat an askmefield, enter a phrase in your language (e.g. start again, i did not understand in English)

Note

Complete all other fields in the Rules, Dialog and Intercom tab (optional).

  1. Click on the save button
  2. Restart A.V.A.T.A.R client
  3. Now, in the chosen language, you can now say a rule and the client will reply
